The Joyce Foundation: New Research on Youth-focused Firearm Safety Education Tools
February
1:00pm EST
Firearms are the leading cause of death for American children and teens, with the gun death rate among children aged 0-17 more than doubling between 2013 and 2022. In this webinar, the panelists will discuss new research exploring two youth-focused firearm injury prevention programs: Guardians 4 Health, a three-part bystander intervention program operating through the National 4-H Shooting Sports Program; and ShootSafe, an interactive web-based platform to teach children firearm safety. Ultimately these findings will inform a discussion around opportunities for firearm injury prevention for children and teens.
Since November 2024, the Joyce Foundation has been hosting a series of webinars focused on firearms research commissioned by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). In 2019, Congress resumed funding firearms research through the CDC, and now the first of those funded projects are starting to produce new and important findings for the field.
The upcoming eighth webinar in the series will cover new research on the nature and dynamics of firearm injury and death among American children, and the impact of youth-focused firearm safety education tools. Firearms are the leading cause of death for American children and teens, with the gun death rate among children aged 0-17 more than doubling between 2013 and 2022.
**This webinar is part of a Joyce Foundation series focused on firearms research commissioned by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). The research and analysis presented during this webinar reflect the views of the presenting researchers and not necessarily of the Joyce Foundation or the CDC.
** NOTE: Only the first 1,000 attendees will be able to join the Webinar live. The Joyce Foundation will email the webinar recording to all registrants when it's available.
